The nine-episode animated original series will premiere on the platform on October 22.
Netflix revealed this Thursday, September 30, the first trailer for its next Mexican original series, Maya and the Three.
From the director of The Book of Life, Jorge R. Gutiérrez, the nine-episode animated series will hit the platform on October 22.
The platform also presented the official poster and new images of the anticipated series.
“As a lifelong lover of fantasy films from around the world and deeply inspired by the glorious Mesoamerican art and exhibits at the National Museum of Anthropology in my native Mexico City, I created Maya as our own fiercely rebellious eagle warrior princess. Our young heroine is lovingly inspired by the true Mexican warrior women in my life: my mother, my sister and my eternal muse, my wife,” said Gutiérrez.
“I can’t wait for audiences of all ages around the world to enjoy Maya and the three of them in her fun, moving and epic quest to defeat the gods of the underworld and save the magical world from her. For all who have loved The Tiger and The Book of Life, a spicy treat awaits you!”
Maya and the Three tells the story of a magical fantasy world where a Mesoamerican-inspired warrior princess embarks on an epic quest to fulfill an ancient prophecy and save humanity from the vengeful gods of the underworld.
In addition to being the director and creator, Jorge R. Gutiérrez is also an executive producer of the series, with Tim Yoon as director; and Silvia Olivas and Jeff Ranjo as executive co-producers.
The writing team, led by Gutiérrez, is made up of Silvia Olivas, Doug Langdale and Candie Kelty Langdale. Ranjo is head of history, while Sandra Equihua is a creative consultant; and Gustavo Santaolalla and Tim Davies are the creators of the music.
