Netflix views are up 13.5% versus May. Peacock is up 13.4% driven by the new season of Love Island USA.

Netflix posted the biggest monthly rise among streaming platforms in June, up 13.5% versus May and adding 0.8 share points to control 8.3% of TV, according to the monthly report presented by Nielsen.

In fact, Netflix’s performance was so strong that it accounted for 42% of streaming’s total monthly gain.

Netflix’s sizable rebound was driven by a slew of blockbuster content, including its original series Ginny & Georgia, which was the most-watched title of the month, with 8.7 billion minutes.

The “Netflix effect” was also felt with the immediate popularity of acquired series Animal Kingdom and Blindspot, which became the second and third most-watched titles in June and totaled 11.4 billion minutes of viewing (5.71 billion and 5.69 billion, respectively).

Finally, Netflix rounded out the month with the premiere of the third season of Squid Game, which generated nearly one billion minutes of viewing – per day – across the entire series in the last three days of the June intermission.

Peacock ranked very close behind Netflix from a monthly increase standpoint, with a 13.4% increase. Peacock’s increase was driven by the new season of its original series Love Island USA, which garnered 4.4 billion minutes of viewing and was the fourth most-watched title of the month.

In the end, Peacock gained a tenth of a share to finish with a 1.5% TV share in June, up 0.3 points from June 2024.

In Nielsen’s 50th monthly report on The Gauge™, the media industry’s leading indicator of total TV and streaming consumption, streaming audience increased again in June to account for 46.0% of TV consumption.

Time spent streaming increased 5.4% from the previous month, driven primarily by a banner month for Netflix and a seasonal influx of school-age viewers.

Kids and teens were the other main driver of streaming’s share shift, as well as the overall increase in total TV usage, which was up 3% over May.

With more time to spend in front of the TV, total consumption among 6-17 year olds was up 27% from last month, and streaming accounted for two-thirds (66%) of their total TV time in June. Not coincidentally, Netflix and Peacock posted the largest month-over-month increases in the 6-17 age group, up 32% and 37%, respectively, compared to May.
