The 8-episode show stars Ted Danson and is produced by Mike Schur.
Ted Danson will become an unlikely spy in a new Netflix comedy series that reunites him with The Good Place creator Mike Schur.
Based on the Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent, the as-yet-untitled eight-episode series follows a retired man, Charles (Danson), who gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad placed by a private investigator and becomes a mole in a secret investigation.
The original film, which was nominated for a best documentary Oscar in 2021 (My Octopus Teacher won that year), takes place in Chile and follows an 83-year-old widower who is hired by a private investigator to infiltrate a nursing home in order to find out if its residents, including the mother of the PI’s client, are being mistreated.
Executive producers of the new series include Schur and Morgan Sackett for Fremulon; David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment; the original film’s director, Maite Alberdi; Marcela Santibáñez for Micromundo Producciones; and, for Motto Pictures, Julie Goldman and Christopher Clements.
This is Danson and Schur’s first team-up since The Good Place, their comedy about the afterlife, ended in 2020. Following the conclusion of the Emmy-nominated comedy series, Danson starred on NBC’s Mr. Mayor, and Schur went on to co-create Rutherford Falls and executive produce Hacks.
