A few months away from its 2020 edition, a list of distributors such as Fremantle, eOne, Banijay, ITV Studios and BBC Studios announced they will not be participating in Miptv this year, opting instead to attend Mipcom in October.

Amidst a reinvention, Miptv has apparently lost a few key exhibitors for this year’s upcoming edition, with big groups from the US, the UK and Europe allegedly pulling out of the event.

According to Deadline, the list of names includes Fremantle, eOne, Banijay -and now Endemol Shine-, ITV Studios and BBC Studios.

Other companies who are still confirmed to attend are all3media, Beyond International, Blue Ant Media, Deutsche Welle, Discovery Inc., Global Agency, Global Screen, KOCCA, Shoreline Entertainment, Studiocanal, TF1 Studios, TV France International and Warner Bros., among others.

The drops in attendance come despite Reed Midem announcing major changes for Miptv 2020, including a new layout, which will move the entire event inside the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, and a focus on buyers, with an increase in 50% according to the organization.

In regard to exhibitors, the organization announced it would offer “flexible and scalable” solutions for them at this year’s market, in an effort to offset the decrease in attendance in 2019.

“Banijay has taken the decision to reduce its presence at Mip TV this year. While it will return in a significant capacity for Mipcom, the business will spend the rest of the year focusing its efforts on a successful integration process around its acquisition of Endemol Shine,” a Banijay spokesperson told Deadline.

“We are continually looking at ways that we can spend more time with our partners and in 2020, whilst we will not be attending MIPTV, we are shifting our focus to our own Festival events in February, as well as markets like NATPE, Berlinale, Series Mania, Realscreen and many others. We look forward to welcoming delegates to ITV Studios House at Mipcom in October. Armoza Formats will have its usual market presence,” added a rep from ITV Studios.

BBC Studios is another major dropout at Miptv after first pulling back from the event last year. Instead, it had a big presence at Mipcom in October 2019, including a new stand designed by Cheerful Twentyfirst.

As is, most of these companies are expected to be back for Mipcom in October.

Miptv 2020 will take place from March 30th to April 2nd at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.
