Produced by BoxFish for Canal 13 in Argentina, Banijay will represent both the finished series and format globally (excluding Argentina, Spain and Brazil) and present it to buyers at Mipcom in Cannes this week.

Banijay announced it has acquired the global rights to Argentinian reality competition series The Hotel, which is being presented at Mipcom 2022 in Cannes this week.

Produced by Diego Guebel’s BoxFish for Canal 13 in Argentina and known locally as El Hotel, this innovative competition reality series sees 16 celebrity contestants isolate themselves for four months in a luxury hotel in the outskirts of a city – but with one caveat: the luxury establishment does not employ any staff.

At the start of each week, celebrities are drawn to face in each other to determine who will be the ‘guests’ and who become the ‘hotel staff’. While guests enjoy a luxurious stay in the pool, spa, live shows and tuck into gourmet dinners, staff are housed in the hotel’s service area; washing linen, preparing breakfast and serving the guests’ every need. At the end of the week, an elimination duel will decide who leaves The Hotel before the final winner takes home a huge cash prize.

Banijay will represent both the finished series and format globally (excluding Argentina, Spain and Brazil) and present The Hotel to buyers at Mipcom in Cannes this week.

Lucas Green, Global Head of Content Operations, Banijay, said: “The Hotel is a colourful reality show featuring challenges with real jeopardy for celebrity contestants, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. This series demonstrates the incredible breadth of Banijay’s multi-genre catalogue of more than 135,000 hours – and we can’t wait to present it to potential buyers at Mipcom.”

Diego Guebel, President of BoxFish, said: “The Hotel continues the successful collaboration between Banijay and BoxFish, which has produced three seasons of MasterChef Celebrity in Argentina. We are once again thrilled to be working with such a renowned group and we strongly believe The Hotel is a refreshing asset to its catalogue, with great global potential for buyers in Cannes.”

The Hotel joins Banijay’s outstanding slate of titles at Mipcom including format highlights Starstruck, Blow Up, Love Triangle, Le Plus Grand Karaoké de France and MasterChef: Young Talent and Banijay Rights-fronted premium scripted titles: Marie Antoinette, Rogue Heroes, Bali 2002, Serial Lover, and third-party dramas Stonehouse and Riches. These break-out autumn highlights complement the 130,000 hours of globally renowned, stand-out IP within Banijay’s catalogue.
