The TV cooking format MasterChef, created by Banijay, has signed two new deals, bringing the total international adaptations to 70.
Banijay has signed two new rights agreements to broadcast MasterChef in Serbia and Malta. It is an important milestone for the format, reaching 70 international adaptations in different markets. MasterChef is the world’s most successful cooking television format (Guinness World Records).
Serbia’s TV Prva will produce the first season of the popular factual entertainment format, airing this month and bringing together local amateur cooks eager to prove to the country that they have what it takes in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, PBS-owned TVM in Malta will launch a new adaptation of the format in February 2024, with Greatt as the local producer. Both deals have been negotiated by Banijay Rights, Banijay’s global distribution arm.
Claire Jago, executive vice president of sales and Acquisitions – EMEA, Banijay Rights, commented that reaching 70 territories is a significant milestone for Banijay. “We are incredibly proud that this globally successful format continues to grow in influence worldwide. We can’t wait for our Serbian and Maltese production partners to deliver compelling new versions of this favorite of families worldwide.”
Earlier this year, K7 crowned MasterChef as Spin-Off Superstar, with its eighth spin-off, MasterChef: Masters of Dessert, launched in Australia last month. The show, now airing in 70 markets, has aired more than 10,000 episodes to date and, in 2021, will air its 500th season worldwide since its 2005 reboot. Created by Franc Roddam and launched in 1990, the show is a superb brand known and enjoyed worldwide.
