WarnerMedia announced the appointment of Johaness Larcher to lead the platform’s international expansion and confirmed Latin America will be the first international territory.
WarnerMedia announced on Wednesday the appointment of Johannes Larcher to lead HBO Max’s international expansion.
Larcher comes to the company after a long career in the OTT ecosystem, with four years of experience in Hulu.
He is also the current managing director of the digital area of MBC Group, a company in the Middle East where he oversaw the launch of OTT Shahid, which currently has 1.4 million subscribers in the region.
His new role will become effective in August and he will report to Gerhard Zeiler, WarnerMedia Chief Revenue Officer and President of WarnerMedia International Networks.
And as detailed by WarnerMedia, Larcher’s first major goal will be the launch of HBO Max in Latin America. Then he will focus on other territories.
For this, they added, he will work jointly with Whit Richardson, president of WarnerMedia Entertainment Networks in Latin America.
HBO Max was launched in the US last May. Since the platform was announced, the objective of bringing it to the international market has always been discussed.
WarnerMedia, in fact, had set 2021 as its goal for HBO Max’s arrival in Latin America and Europe.
With the announcement on Wednesday, it is now confirmed that Latin America will be the first international market for the platform.
In the region, in fact, WarnerMedia recently completed the acquisition of 100% of HBO Ole Partners, the joint venture between WarnerMedia and Ole Communications, now giving you full control over HBO’s signals and platforms in the region.
