Televisión Canaria commissions Doble Diez and Topanga Crea to co-produce first Spanish adaptation of Tuesday’s Child TV’s hit play-a-long music quiz for audiences in the Canary Islands.
Keshet International (KI) has completed a deal that will see the first Spanish-language adaptation of Tuesday’s Child Televisions’ compelling music quiz show The Hit List produced and broadcast.
KI has licensed the feel-good play along, singalong family format to Madrid-based Topanga Crea, which has been commissioned by Televisión Canaria, the Canary Islands’ free-to-air television network operated by regional public broadcaster Radio Televisión Canaria, to co-produce 26 x 60’ episodes with Canarian production company Doble Diez.
Originally created and produced by Tuesday’s Child for BBC One – where it has recently been re-commissioned for a seventh series for primetime Saturday nights – and successfully licensed by KI in Finland, the Netherlands and France, The Hit List has the lively atmosphere of a dance party alongside the addictive entertainment of a fast-paced quiz.
Featuring the same format and mechanics as the British original, which sees three pairs of contestants competing to be the first to guess the name and artist of well-known songs, The Hit List (Canary Islands) has been localized to extend the length of each episode to an hour, and to feature a song selection that compliments the musical taste of the Canarian audience. Currently in production, the 26-part series will be presented by Iván Torres, the lead singer and guitarist of the Spanish rock band Efecto Pasillo, alongside comedy actress Mariam Hernández (En Otra Clave) – two well-known and well-loved celebrities across the Canary Islands.
The first Spanish-language adaptation of this crowd-pleasing format to be produced anywhere in the world to date, The Hit List (Canary Islands) is being filmed in Gran Canaria in Doble Diez’s state-of-the-art audiovisual complex in front of a live studio audience. Directed by Sergio Hernández and produced by Paco Muñoz, this latest adaptation of The Hit List is executive produced by Topanga Crea’s Baldo Limón and Alejandro Ojeda, alongside Doble Diez’s Santi Falcón Ravelo. The Hit List (Canary Islands) is expected to premiere weekly in primetime on Televisión Canaria before the end of Q1 2024.
Candelaria Delgado Alonso, Product Manager, Communication and Marketing director at Televisión Pública de Canarias (TVPC), says: “At Televisión Pública de Canarias, we are delighted to be able to add to our programme offer for 2024, a very special year in which we celebrate our 25th anniversary, a wonderful family entertainment format with a friendly tone and accessible to all audiences like The
Hit List, which has been successfully produced in other European territories. We are convinced that it will be of great interest to audiences in the Canary Islands”.
Kelly Wright, KI’s MD Distribution, comments, “The Hit List is a fun and entertaining musical treat that gets everyone guessing, both in the studio and at home. With six seasons produced for BBC One and a seventh on order, and successful remakes in Finland and in the Netherlands, it is a proven shiny-floor format that rates well, is quick-turnaround, and easily adaptable to any time slot, version, or budget. We are confident that Televisión Canaria’s viewers are going to love Doble Diez and Topanga Crea’s local adaptation for the Canary Islands!”
Santi Falcón, Executive Producer of Doble Diez, says, “This year, the 25th anniversary of the creation of Televisión Canaria and the production company Doble Diez, we are delighted to present to Canarian and Spanish audiences one of the best family formats on the international market, The Hit List, a musical quiz show created by Tuesday’s Child and distributed by Keshet International. We firmly believe that this first adaptation of the format in Spanish can open the doors to future adaptations in other Spanish-speaking territories, both in Spain and Latin America.”
Karen Smith, CEO of Tuesday’s Child adds: “The Hit List is the perfect feel-good family format for right now – it’s multi-generational, thoroughly entertaining, and irresistibly play along. I defy you not to shout the answers at the screen. It should be easy, you’ve ‘heard’ them all before… but can you name the title and the artist when you’re under pressure?”
The Hit List format is distributed by Keshet International on behalf of Tuesday’s Child Television. In addition to this deal, KI has also licensed The Hit List format in Finland, where the Finnish adaptation secured a 30.2% viewing sharing, making MTV the most-watched commercial channel of the night; and in the Netherlands for NPO, where Vincent TV produced the Dutch adaptation; as well as to M6 in France. Already a hit in the UK for BBC One, Tuesday’s Child’s sixth season of The Hit List reached an audience of 10.3M (16.8%) in 2023 (15 min+ reach, as broadcast), averaging 2.3M viewers for each episode, and peaking at 2.8M for the 2023 Eurovision Special (BARB 28-Day 4-Screen).
