Without being able to be publicly supported by its protagonists, the DC Studios film, the first in the superhero genre to have a Latin American director, writer and cast, has received the support of 27 Latino organizations in Hollywood

The strikes by actors (SAG-Aftra) and writers (WGA) in Hollywood not only affect production, but also marketing, since by union order artists cannot publicize works in which they have participated.

This is a blow to the campaigns behind new releases, particularly in the cinema, and one of the films that is about to navigate these waters is Blue Beetle, opening on August 18.

The DC Studios and The Safran Company film is the first in the superhero genre to have a director (Ángel Manuel Soto), a writer (Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer) and a Latin American cast (Xolo Maridueña, among others).

Trying to support its release, 27 Hollywood Latino organizations have signed an open letter that emphasizes the significance of the film: “The stories are more than entertainment. They are a powerful tool for social change that fuels our collective movement to build a more equitable and fair for those people who have historically been underrepresented or marginalized”.

“We were particularly optimistic about this summer. We were nearing a critical inflection point for Latino representation, as we watched the return of some of our favorite shows and characters, the launch of exciting new series, and prepared for a groundbreaking moment in the big screen: the first superhero film directed, written and starring people of Latino origin. We were hopeful that our long-awaited cultural moment was finally here,” the letter states.

“For the sake of current and future generations of Latinos, we will not delay our progress any longer. We invite you to join us in our quest to amplify the work that countless Latino artists have worked so hard to create. It is important that we support them. at a time when they cannot promote their projects”, invites the text.
