The Brazilian telenovela will make its debut on January 4 on the US network.
A ratings leader in Brazil and Portugal and currently on-air in countries such as Uruguay and Costa Rica, A Mother’s Love will premiere in the United States on January 4, 2022 on Pasiones, the network for telenovelas and drama series in Spanish, a subsidiary of US-based Hemisphere Media Group, Inc.
The drama, which was nominated for an International Emmy for Best Telenovela this year, and a gold medal-winner at the Venice TV Awards, will air Monday to Friday, at 8pm ET / 5pm PT.
A Mother’s Love written by Manuela Dias, with the artistic direction of José Luiz Villamarim, features a realistic and captivating plot which follows the story of three mothers, Lurdes (Regina Casé), Thelma (Adriana Esteves, from Brazil Avenue) and Victoria (Taís Araujo, from Shades of Sin). Despite each woman’s distinctive life and experiences with motherhood, their lives are forever intertwined. The telenovela examines the critical and difficult role played by mothers and shows how everyday life can be affected—positively or negatively—by events big and small. It is a plot centering on maternal love and what each woman is capable of doing out of love for her children.
Lurdes is a mother of five who tirelessly looks for Domenico, her son who was sold by his own father 26 years ago; Thelma is an overprotective woman whose love has crossed into obsession; to have her son by her side, she recognizes no limits and is capable of doing anything to achieve her goals, regardless of those in her path; while Victoria is a successful lawyer who sees that her marriage has reached its breaking point after numerous unsuccessful attempts to have a child of her own. When she finally decides to adopt, she discovers that she has become pregnant during the process.
The telenovela, which had part of its taping completed during the pandemic, was the first production recorded at MG4, Globo’s new studio inaugurated in 2019, which consolidated the site as the largest audiovisual production complex in Latin America, with innovative facilities still not found anywhere else in the world.
Pasiones strives to offer its viewers quality, innovative, multicultural, and critically acclaimed content, breaking conventional expectations of what telenovela and drama channels have historically broadcasted; A Mother’s Love is the latest example of the channel’s diverse and extensive programming.
