Emergency 53, a Globoplay Originals series created and produced by Conspiração, won the Studio Babelsberg Production Excellence Award, a prize that debuted this year at the Berlinale Series Market. The only Brazilian series selected for the festival in 2026, the production stood out among 17 international titles. The announcement was made this Tuesday (17) by Marcus Loges, Managing Director of Studio Babelsberg, during a ceremony held at the CinemaxX Lounge in Berlin.
“It is a great honor to receive this series award in its first edition at the Berlin Festival, which has always valued and celebrated Brazilian cinema, awarding Central Station and Elite Squad with the Golden Bear and selecting many other films. Emergency 53 is a series about our reality and aimed at Brazilian audiences, and it is gratifying to see it connect with viewers beyond Brazil,” celebrates Alex Medeiros, Head of Scripted Content at Globoplay Originals and Globo Filmes, who received the award alongside Renata Brandão, CEO of Conspiração, the series’ production company.
“The series stood out for the performance of its young and captivating lead actress and a diverse cast rich in emotional and narrative potential. One of its greatest achievements is its vibrant and complex setting, portrayed not merely as a backdrop but as an active force shaping the narrative. This specificity gave the series texture, urgency, and social relevance. Ambitious, innovative, and deeply rooted in the reality it portrays,” highlighted the awards jury.
This marks the third consecutive year that a Globoplay Originals series has been showcased in Berlin, following Living on a Razor’s Edge and Reincarnate.
Set to premiere later this year on Globoplay, Emergency 53 follows the daily lives and challenges of professionals working in a special mobile emergency response unit. It was created by Claudio Torres, Márcio Maranhão, and Andrucha Waddington, who also shares directing duties with Torres. The screenplay is written by Torres and Fábio Mendes.
The cast includes Valentina Herszage, Heloisa Jorge, Yara de Novaes, Emílio Dantas, Ana Hikari, Jaffar Bambirra, Raquel Villar, William Nascimento, and Emílio de Mello, with a special appearance by Fernanda Montenegro.
