Angela Colla, Head of International Business and Coproductions, and Lucas Zardo, Executive Producer of Drama, were in Turkey to oversee the filming of the series Leyla, the first international adaptation of Brazil Avenue.

Resulting from an unprecedented agreement between Globo and Ay Yapim, Turkey’s leading production company, the series is set to premiere soon on the Turkish channel NOW, with general direction by Hilal Saral (Fatmagul).

With the sale of the format to Ay Yapim, the story has retained the successful elements of the original telenovela. In this adaptation, Leyla (Cemre Baysel), who was Nina in the Brazilian version, portrayed by Débora Falabella, experiences a life-changing event when she loses her father in an accident and is abandoned in a dump by her stepmother Nur (Gonca Vuslateri), who in the Brazilian version was played by Adriana Esteves. Years later she returns seeking revenge.

A phenomenon in Brazilian television, Brazil Avenue, by João Emanuel Carneiro, has also achieved international success: it is Globo’s best-selling telenovela, licensed to over 140 territories, and was nominated for the International Emmy Award for Best Telenovela.

“We are very happy to see this project coming to fruition. We strongly believe in the potential of our stories, and having Brazil Avenue, one of our most iconic productions, which resonated so much both in Brazil and internationally, taking on a new format is a reflection of how universal its plot is. We hope that the audience embraces this new version and that more adaptations follow in the future”, comments Angela.
