Based on real events, this series tells the story of a hairdresser from Lisbon who, in the middle of the 2008 financial crisis – after finding herself alone, broke, and with two children to raise – began to rob several banks, using a wig and a fake gun. Known as the “Black Widow”, she was eventually caught and sentenced to seven years in prison, after stealing a total of 17,000 euros.
Starring the actress Gabriela Barros (Vanda), the cast also includes names like Joana de Verona (Elisa) and João Baptista (Mário). Created by Patrícia Müller, VANDA was directed by Simão Cayatte, with the special collaboration of Spanish director Elia Urquiza. The production was supported by Almada City Hall, PIC Portugal (Portugal Cash Rebate), ICA, and the Portuguese Tourism.
