Present at LA Screenings, production and distribution company EO Media arrived in Los Angeles with two clear objectives, seeking to expand its business both at the distribution and production levels.
“On the distribution side, the event splits the year in two and prepares us for the deals that we can close in the remainder of 2024 and set up what will be 2025,” explained Ezequiel Olzanski, CEO and President of Coproduction and Distribution at EO. Media, during the event.
“We have a very diverse catalog with more than 250 films, with very diverse genres, designed to be able to meet the needs of clients in different windows. We are a distributor that’s very aware of what the audiences are and how to help our clients reach them, be it platforms, regional pay TV or open TV. In a challenging time in the industry like this, we must take care more than ever so that they can retain subscribers, and in the case of open TV, try to be able to provide content that audiences like to see, that they recognize, that they love like action movies, family movies”.
“We are happy to be able to discuss agreements and always listen to the players, learning how to stand in the face of changes in the industry,” he added.
And on the production side, the group arrived in Los Angeles with a battery of projects in development, with two major highlights for the international market.
“We are very happy now finishing and delivering Cris Miró, almost ready for its premiere,” the executive revealed. “It is a project that we fell in love with and we are proud to see it finished. We believe that it will be attractive to audiences and will fulfill a function at the societal level. It is a story that one wants to tell and that has important values for audiences. I think it will unite different generations.”
The original biopic tells the story of Cris Miró, the first Argentine trans woman to become a star at the Maipo Theater in the 90s, something that, at that time, was only possible for cis-gender women.
“When we started it – it is a co-production of EO Media with Nativa Contents, for Warner Media, TNT and Flow – we understood that it was a story that at first glance could seem small, local, niche. But we understood that it was one of those stories, because of the person and character of Cris, that seem small but that universe makes them universal. The strength and legacy of Cris Miró will impact the screens and the audiences.”
In addition, the CEO highlighted the EO Media project together with El Camino, a miniseries called Punta Blanca, starring Natalia Oreiro.
“It is a project that has us excited. It was very attractive to us because it brings together all the characteristics it needs. On the one hand, a very relevant cast led by Natalia. On the other, a top-level writing team, with the writers behind El Marginal. And above all, the mystery murder genre, which is something very attractive, that keeps you attentive to what is going to happen. There is a murder that happens at the beginning and throughout each episode you feel that all the protagonists could be the murderer”.
“Also, it happens in Punta del Este in the 90s, a place that the world is going to discover like an Ibiza in Uruguay, with a world full of glamour, which makes it very attractive internationally. But also, I felt that there was something parallel to Parasite, the Korean film, which deals with the theme of ‘up and down’. Something very similar to that happens in Maldonado. There is a world of glamour, who are the protagonists of the story, against a world of the locals, who pass by. I don’t understand what the magazines of the time were saying,” he explained.
