In order to participate, the registration form that must be completed and the legal bases can be found in full at www.emergentecinelab.com.
emergente! continues to foster its goal of providing new perspectives for an international audiovisual industry that’s eager for them, facilitating an annual meeting point between new producers and creators, promoting emerging audiovisual talent in Spanish from around the world and giving an international boost to the short film industry through the development, financing and co-production of projects. The dates, venue in Madrid and prize money for the eighth edition will be announced soon.
This established event is the only laboratory in the world that specializes in the development of short films for new creators (first or second work) in Spanish, as well as a forum for international co-production of short films for Europe and Latin America. It is a commitment to promoting Spain, and specifically Madrid, as a key space to locate and promote the growth of the talent of emerging audiovisual professionals in Spanish from around the world.
In this eighth edition, 16 countries are competing to participate. In addition to short film projects from Spain, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay, the call is also open to six new Spanish-speaking countries: Ecuador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic.
Among all the projects submitted, which will include all genres (fiction, documentary, animation) in Spanish, a committee of professionals selected and coordinated by AIC will choose between 6 and 12 projects, half of which will be destined for projects that have a woman as a new director, screenwriter or executive producer. To participate, it is essential that the directors, screenwriters and producers are new, whose projects are in the first phase of development and have real possibilities of international co-production between Latin America, Spain and Europe.
Thanks to the agreements that emergente! has with other important events, three of the projects chosen for this eighth edition have already been preselected by the following collaborating laboratories: BFM of the Bogoshorts festival in Bogotá (Colombia), Curt Creixent of the Institut Valencià de Cultura, ECAM Forum in Madrid and Abycine Lanza. The participation of these projects, which will compete for all the awards, has already been confirmed.
In order to help the growth of each chosen project, emergente! incorporates a laboratory, this being its fourth edition, which will be held in a hybrid format (in person and online) during the month of October. The selected projects will work on both the creative aspects (script, direction) and the production phases (creation of audiences, marketing, communication, international financing). Later, during the first half of November, the short films will be presented in person in pitch format to a professional audience made up of producers, investors, televisions and Spanish-speaking and European platforms. The professional accreditations to attend this presentation, both in person and virtually, will be announced shortly.
emergente! is organised by AIC (Short Film Industry Association). It is supported and funded by the Community of Madrid, Madrid City Council and EGEDA. It also has the following collaborators: BFM Bogoshorts Development Forum (Bogotá, Colombia), Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival, Short Film Market at the Figari Film Fest, Curt Creixent at the Institut Valencià de Cultura and ECAM Forum in Madrid.
