Eccho Rights announced a deal with SVT for the Turkish drama Mother, produced by Medyapim.

Swedish distributor Eccho Rights announced an agreement with Swedish public broadcaster SVT for the Turkish drama Mother.

The series, produced by Medyapim, will premiere in autumn of this year at 7:30 p.m. in the already consolidated Turkish drama block on SVT2.

Mother comes after the success in Sweden of series like The End, Broken Pieces and Brave and Beautiful.

“The first Turkish drama we brought to SVT was The End in 2013, which created a huge impact. Sweden was the first country in Western Europe to bet on a Turkish drama and we are proud that they have now found a daily slot in the national broadcaster,” said Fredrik af Malmborg, Managing Director of Eccho Rights.

“And in the years since the first agreement, more channels and platforms in Europe have seen the power of Turkish drama on their programming grids,” he added.

Originally titled Anne, Mother is a MedYapım and MF Yapım co-production starring Cansu Dere, known for successful productions such as Sulla and Ezel.

It tells the story of Zeynep (Dere), a young substitute teacher who, upon learning that one of her students, Melek (Beren Gökyıldız, only six years old), is suffering abuse from her parents, makes the impulsive decision to kidnap her and start a new life with the girl, becoming her “surrogate mother” and living several adventures together.

The series also features performances by Vahide Perçin (The Sultan, Feriha’s Secret), Serhat Teoman, and Gonca Vuslateri.

It is based on the Japanese series of the same name, produced in 2010 by Nippon TV.

In Turkey, it was broadcast by Star TV in the 2016-2017 season. Although its international distribution is in charge of Global Agency, the agreement with SVT was closed by Eccho Rights since both distributors agreed on a collaboration for this sale, as they had previously done with Broken Pieces.
