Dori Media Group (DMG) and Yair Dori Holdings have begun shooting new fiction series, Amia, in Montevideo, Uruguay. The series is being produced by Dori Media with Yair Dori Holdings Ltd and production services company, Cimmaron Cine. The eight 40-45-minute-episodes are 12 weeks into production, with a plan to then move the shoot to Argentina.
Amia will air for the first time in February to March 2024 on Reshet 13, an Israeli free-to-air television channel and be distributed exclusively by Dori Media International.
Based on an original idea from Nadav Palti and Yair Dori, Amia is inspired by the terror attacks in 1992 and 1994 in Buenos Aires against the Israeli embassy and the Jewish community, from which the series coined its name.
Created by Givon Snir and Shuky Gur, the series follows Diego, a Mossad agent whose sister was killed in the Argentina terrorist attack. Diego takes a leave of absence and partners with Gisela, a local Argentinean journalist to find those responsible. Their journey to uncover the truth draws them into a world of espionage, intelligence agencies and arms dealers. A dubious world in which lies are truths, and justice and revenge become indistinguishable. The journey that the two embark on will eventually lead to a re-examination of their connection with their families and even their concept of self-identity.
The main language of the series is Spanish combined with additional languages: English, Hebrew and Persian.
The director, Guillermo Rocamora, previously worked on award-winning dramas based in his native country, Uruguay. Titles include ‘Solo’, 2013 winner of the Miami Film Festival Ibero-American Opera Prima Award and short film, ‘Buen Viaje’, featured at Cannes Film Festival and Bilbao International Festival in 2008.
Amia is written by head screen writer, Izhar Harlev. Izhar has previously written ‘The Gordin Cell’, Israeli psychological thriller, which was nominated for Best Script in a Drama Series in the Awards of the Israeli Television Academy.
The cast includes actors from Israel, Argentina and Uruguay including Israeli actor Michael Aloni, who plays Diego, and is known for the successful Dori Media series, ‘Shtisel’ (2013-2021) amongst other reputable productions. Journalist, Gisela, is played by Malena Sánchez, Argentinian actress known for ‘El Encargado’ (2022), Tuya (2015), De Martes a Martes (2012). Amia will also star the accomplished Alfonso Tort, César Bordón and Jameel Khoury.
Nadav Palti, CEO & President of Dori Media Group, said: The attack on the Israeli embassy in Argentina is a defining moment in many lives and greatly impacted a nation both politically and socially. It is imperative that this story be told, and Dori Media is proud to create and share the high-quality “Hollywood” production. Returning to where AMIA happened has brought the story to life with companies, creators, and actors from around the world including Israel, Argentina and Uruguay. We are extremely excited to produce and distribute this to an international audience once it has aired in Spring 2024. I would like to formally thank Yair Dori for engaging so positively with Dori Media.
Givon Snir, Head of Content, Dori Media International, said: While researching the AMIA story I realized that no matter how deep you dig, you can’t figure out who are the good guys and who are the bad ones. You can’t figure out who is telling the truth and who is lying. And this is what I think the audience will feel when watching this action-packed and full of twists series.
