The project, developed together with actor Wilmer Valderrama, joins those already being prepared by Secuoya Studios and ViacomCBS International Studios.
Disney Branded Television announced on Tuesday that it is developing a television series with actor Wilmer Valderrama about the character of El Zorro.
The project, they added, is executive produced by Gary Marsh, former president of Disney Branded Entertainment and is part of their multi-year agreement to produce content for Disney General Entertainment.
John Gertz of Zorro Productions, Inc, also signs as executive producer.
Wilmer Valderrama would be the main actor in the role of Diego de la Vega.
“We are reimagining this Disney classic as a period piece set in Los Angeles Town, but told in a modern way and soap opera style,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television.
The project announced this Monday joins two other series of El Zorro currently in development.
On the one hand, Secuoya Studios announced earlier this year a series about El Zorro that has the support of producers such as Andy Kaplan, Jesús Torres and Sergio Pizzolante. It will be written by Carlos Portela and directed by Javier Ruiz Caldera.
John Gertz would also be behind this series, according to what Secuoya had announced.
On the other hand, ViacomCBS International Studios also has an El Zorro project in hand with Juan José Campanella.
It will be called Outlaw and the idea is to tell the story “in a realistic way and sticking to the real facts.”
