The live action series will premiere on Hulu in the US and on Sony Pictures Television’s Pop network in the UK.
Discovery Kids Media (DKM) announced today the licensing of Big Top Academy, which will stream on Hulu in the U.S. and air on the Sony Pictures Television (SPT) POP network across the U.K.
Both Hulu and SPT acquired rights to Season 1 and 2 of the live-action series.
DKM is Discovery International’s recently created unit charged with developing, commissioning, co-producing and distributing kids’ animated and live-action content for both linear and digital platforms.
“We are excited to see Discovery Kids Media already announcing sales in two key markets such as the U.S. and the U.K.” said Carolina Lightcap, CCO Discovery Latin America/USH & General Manager, DKM. “We look forward to delighting these audiences with Big Top Academy’s story, which combines high production standards with a strong and positive message for kids and families.”
Produced by Apartment 11 Productions in association with Discovery and TVOkids, in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil Images, Big Top Academy transports young viewers to the exciting and colorful circus universe. The series, set in a fictitious circus arts boarding school, tells the story of an extraordinary group of eight young acrobats who dream of becoming professional circus artists.
Together, they must strive for personal excellence while learning to work as a team, surpassing their own limits. Throughout their adventures, they will develop meaningful friendships while juggling the ups and downs of growing up in such a unique environment.
Shot in Montreal, the show treats viewers to the amazing universe of the circus through artistic direction, costumes, make up, acrobatic coaching and more, as Cirque du Soleil performers and craftsmen worked with the show’s creators and young artists to deliver a series rich in storytelling and visually stunning.
Danielle Davies, Vice President, Kids Content Partnerships and Revenue for Discovery Kids Media, is responsible for leading the exploitation of all titles created by DKM, as part of Discovery International’s program sales and consumer products team.
