The company has acquired the distribution rights for Go Nagai’s classic anime in various territories, including Spain, Latin America, North America, France, Italy, and Germany.

DeAPlaneta Entertainment will manage the licensing rights for Grendizer in Spain, Latin America, North America, Greece, Italy, the CIS; and German-, French-, and Portuguese-speaking territories.

This classic of the mecha genre was created by Go Nagai in 1975 as part of the Mazinger Z universe. It is one of the series that introduced Western audiences to the conventions of Japanese anime and has become a cult classic for several generations. With this acquisition, DeAPlaneta Entertainment strategically strengthens its position in the kidult market.

The company will also handle the media and consumer product strategy for Grendizer U, based on Go Nagai’s original work. This updated version introduces the character to a new generation and also features the iconic Mazinger Z, making possible a crossover long awaited by its legion of fans.

DeAPlaneta Entertainment will manage the broadcast of Grendizer U in Spain, Latin America, North America (both in Spanish in Mexico and in English in the United States and Canada), and the CIS, as well as in Portuguese-speaking countries (including Portugal, Brazil, and African territories with Portuguese as an official language) and Greece.

The company will coordinate the merchandising licenses for 118 products in all these territories, in addition to German-speaking countries (including Germany and Austria), French-speaking countries (including France, Belgium, Canada, and African countries with French as an official language), and Italy. This agreement was made in conjunction with Mangouste Anim and marks the first collaboration between the two companies, which are already working on more joint projects.

Carlos Biern, Content and Media Sales Director of DeAPlaneta Kids & Family, commented: “Grendizer U goes beyond nostalgia. Its spectacular production design finally updates the characters of a true pillar of anime for today’s new digital generations.”

“Grendizer is reaching both young audiences and those who discovered the character in its classic version. These moments of shared experience are incredibly valuable to us, and they give us the opportunity to work on these IPs creatively and across platforms, with countless possibilities,” added Antonella Ceraso, International Consumer Products Director of DeAPlaneta Entertainment.

“Grendizer is not just a cult franchise; it’s a work of cultural transmission that, since 1975, has been passed down from generation to generation of fans. The series paved the way for manga in Europe and created a generation of fans; today it remains a timeless pillar of popular culture. Grendizer U builds on a unique legacy and bridges the gap between the excitement of classic Grendizer and modern animation, capable of captivating new generations. With record sales, a continuous media presence, and unwavering popularity for over forty years, Grendizer is a cultural brand with a lasting international impact,” stated Caroline Cornot, CEO of Mangouste Anim.
