eOne’s VP of Sales for Latin America spoke about the company’s new titles for the region, including Salazar, the new original series co-produced with Plano a Plano in Spain.
Producer and distributor eOne was one of the more than 100 exhibitors that were present at the first edition of Content Americas 2023, an event that took place from January 24 to 26, at the Hilton Downtown Miami.
The new television business market organized by C21 Media was key for eOne to present its most recent productions for the Latin American market in 2023.
“Content Americas has been very good news for everyone. From the beginning, eOne wanted to participate in this market. It is the start of the new year and it is very important to talk about the new productions and the plans that we are going to have in the months ahead. And for all broadcasters and buyers, it is important that they start by seeing everything that is available for purchases and licenses,” David Hanono, VP of Sales for Latin America at eOne, told ttvnews.
As for this year’s new titles, the company presented The Spencer Sisters, a 10×60′ comedy series, which eOne has already licensed in the US.
“It is a series that got a lot of interest. It’s a crime investigation with Lea Thompson, based on the success of Family Law, a series that was sold to NBCUniversal and Globoplay. We have high expectations for this series since it is of the same kind,” Hanono said.
In addition, eOne is presenting The Rookie: Feds, another of the company’s bets for the region and a spin-off of The Rookie, a series that is now in its fifth season, featuring Nathan Fillion . “We are already looking at the second and third windows for this series.”
In turn, the company is seeking partners for the co-production, or pre-buy, of the Salazar series (8×50′), based on the life of Alfonso de Salazar, a witch investigator during the Spanish inquisition, and which eOne is co-producing with Plano a Plano in Madrid.
“It will be produced this year together with the Spanish production company Plano a Plano in Madrid. It is a period story, but very dynamic and entertaining. We are looking for a partner for the co-production or the pre-buy, which already has the complete series. The series goes into production this year and will be ready for next year,” the executive said.
According to the executive, the new original series is a consequence of the success achieved with Operación marea negra, eOne’s first original production in Spanish for the region. “Operacion marea negra was very successful and we were able to sell it multiple times. This will be the second original production, but others will come in Spanish,” he assured.
In addition to these new titles, Hanono stressed that the company has a wide catalog of titles already dubbed into Spanish. “We have a lot of content for different platforms, but especially for Free TV, since they do not acquire content if it is not dubbed. This means that we are entering the Latin American and US Hispanic markets more fully, using all that dubbing that we have available”.
In the last year, eOne has closed licensing agreements with important media companies such as NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Televison, AMC Networks, Roku, Globoplay or Televisa, among others. “We are growing in the region and we want to continue in those steps,” concluded Hanono.
