New Cineflix Rights negotiations in Latin America have allowed successful products that had not yet been able to reach broadcast television to become available on TV stations in the region, as is the case of Hermanos a la Obra and Desastres aéreos, as well as the format Tempting Fortune, which is being filmed in Turkey and will arrive very soon to TV Azteca.
During the first day of LA Screenings, we spoke with Daniel Rodriguez, Cineflix Rights sales consultant for Latin America and US Hispanic, who mentioned that the format is called Tempting Fortune by Acunmedya’s; it premiered last year on Channel 4 in the UK, with six highly successful episodes, it was the strongest reality of 2023 on the channel. “We have the format to produce it for Mexico; it is being recorded in Turkey with a premiere at the end of this month or early next month,” he said.
Rodriguez mentioned that twenty episodes are being filmed with people from Mexico who flew to Turkey, and it is a very interesting format. “It is a social experiment, where a group of people are put in difficult situations and are given temptations, but if any of the group falls into those temptations, all the money goes out of the group, creating a lot of drama and internal situations among them. It’s a super entertaining format, and the second season in England is already in production to premiere at the end of this year or early next year.
Additionally, in Latin America, in addition to the version of Tempting Fortune that will premiere in Mexico, Discovery bought the finished product from the UK and put it throughout Latin America.
According to Rodriguez, in Latin America, two very important Cineflix products were still successfully produced. “One of them is Hermanos a la obra, a product that until now had not been offered on broadcast television in Latin America, and this year, we were able to make a negotiation, which will allow us to open the product already dubbed. In Chile, it is already being broadcast by Televisora Nacional, and we will negotiate it in other markets.
Desastres aéreos, which has been produced over almost 25 broadcast seasons. Each episode features a plane crash from the point of view of the investigation. “It’s a very easy product to program and one that is for the whole family,” the executive assured.
On the other hand, Cineflix has developed So Long, Marianne, an eight-episode fiction series telling the biography of Canadian singer Leonard Cohen, his love story with a Norwegian girl he meets in Greece, and his transformation from poet to singer. “The series traverses his entire life in Canada, Greece, New York, Paris, Cuba, and his life to the end. This product premiered in Series Mania this year with excellent results. It is already sold all over Europe, and we are bringing it now because it has well-known artists from the region,” he concluded.
