The new channel from Sony’s anime platform will offer free content within the US seeking to reach audiences curious about the genre
Crunchyroll, the platform from Sony Pictures Entertainment and Anipplex specialized in anime, has launched a FAST channel, free and with ads, which aims to bring Japanese animations to a wider audience, as an entry to its on-demand content.
The channel is a collaboration between Crunchyroll and Game Show Network (GSN), which is part of SPE.
LG Channels, Roku Channel and Vizio WatchFree+ have agreed to carry the channel. Amazon’s Freevee will also add it to its offer on October 17th.
Among the anime series available on the 24-hour signal are Code Geass, Ranking of Kings, Horimiya, Moriarty the Patriot, Psycho-Pass, To Your Eternity and Arifureta.
The objective of the FAST channel is to interest linear TV audiences in anime, with the aim of then offering them the powerful library of its VOD platform.
Crunchyroll is a well-known anime brand whose platform works for free and with a subscription service -without ads-, with 10 million paid subscribers, according to figures revealed after its merger with Funimation, in 2022. Sony acquired Crunchyroll in 2021 and had did the same with Funimation in 2019.
