In a year of great news and investment in production for the group, Mediacrest Entertainment made its way to Miami for a new edition of Content Americas, where it is presenting its new titles for the international market.
First on the list is the series Asuntos Internos, starring Laia Manzanares, Silvia Abascal and Marta Poveda, a thriller full of intrigue, tension, action and drama that for six episodes will take the viewer to a police station in a working-class neighborhood in the late 70s, early 80s, and which has just been selected for the Berlinale Series Market.
“I think that Asuntos internos -not only as a company project, which is our flagship in fiction, our first major fiction TV project- marks a milestone in terms of content from a historical part of our country,” Cristian Liarte, Director of Global Business Development, Acquisitions and Partners at Mediacrest Entertainment, began in a conversation with ttvnews from Miami.
“In Spain, the era in which the series is set is very well recognized, with the difference that we tell it from the eyes of the first female detective in a police station in the country, which brings together two universes that people are not used to seeing. And it seems that there is a lot of interest in the market to see it,” explained the executive.
And although the plot is set in a very Spanish context, the executive is confident that the series can win over audiences in several Latin American markets.
“The first thing is that it works locally, of course. But we always try to think about how it will be perceived from the eyes of Latin America, if the stories are international, that they can be understood in other countries,” said the executive. “And in the end, her conflict is one that anyone can understand.”
“Also, in a historical context that while perhaps in Latam does not resonate as much, the conflict she faces when arriving in a new place is very easy to recognize. You feel part of that conflict because in the end it is crossing a barrier of something that has not happened until then, breaking a status quo, something that has happened throughout the region at other historical moments. We always think about how that story can cross the pond and be understood in Latam.”
In addition to Asuntos internos, Mediacrest is presenting several titles such as El espejo and Aquello que fuiste, and the feature film Daniela Forever, by Nacho Vigalondo.
“I think that 2025 will be the area of fiction and film at Mediacrest,” the executive summed up, and continued: “With the three film projects that we have ahead of us, with a services area that has started in the best possible way, that we are delighted with everything that is coming, with the premiere of Asuntos internos and with several projects that seem to be going to see the light soon.”
“I think that is consolidating a work that we have been doing for the last three years with a lot of investment and hours, and with releases that we hope people will like.”
In this commitment to content production, Mediacrest is based on a unique strategy of combining both the business side with the story side. “Mediacrest has something very particular in its way of conceiving content and content production, and that is that we feel very much like producers. We believe a lot in the craft and what we do, and in investing in content. And that balance in which it is a business, together with finding and investing in good stories, is what I would highlight as the fundamental value,” he explained.
“And that is still a competitive advantage, looking at the story from many angles that are not only that of the business. Trying to balance the two worlds. And having confidence in the stories, in the talent, trying to attract the greatest possible talent and investing. Believing in what we do, which is our leitmotiv,” he concluded.
