The Acorn TV drama was sold to Sky Italia, NHK Japan, BBC Worldwide (Benelux), and NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-to-Consumer for Universal TV in Africa.

Cineflix Rights has signed deals with Sky Italia, NHK Japan, BBC Worldwide (Benelux), and NBCUniversal International Networks & Direct-to-Consumer for Universal TV in Africa for cozy crime procedural Whitstable Pearl.

A second season of the drama, which airs on AMC Networks’ Acorn TV platforms in the US and UK, has recently been greenlit and will also be distributed by Cineflix Rights.

Whitstable Pearl (6×45’, Buccaneer Media for AMC Networks’ Acorn TV, US and UK) is set in the beautiful English seaside town of Whitstable, home to Pearl Nolan (Kerry Godliman, Derek, After Life), who divides her time between serving up tasty seafood delicacies in her restaurant and solving the crimes, debauchery, and murder regularly brought in by the tide. Alongside Pearl is DI Mike McGuire (Howard Charles, The Musketeers) as her on-off rival and love interest.

Based on Julie Wassmer’s much-loved novels, the series is created and written by iconic Norwegian filmmaker, Øystein Karlsen (Exit, Dag, Lilyhammer) and produced by Buccaneer Media, the award-winning company behind global hit detective series Marcella, and Irvine Welsh’s Crime, which recently launched to critical acclaim on BritBox.

James Durie, Head of Scripted, Cineflix Rights said: “Whitstable Pearl has been a great success in the US and UK, and we’re delighted to be acquiring the second season for worldwide distribution. These latest deals in Europe, Asia, and Africa further demonstrate the show’s strong international appeal, and we’ve already secured pre-sales for Season 2 across the Nordic region with more deals in the pipeline.”
