Last Miptv, Onza Distribution announced the sale of Cacau to Mediaset España. And now, the group is present at LA Screenings to continue expanding the telenovela’s footprint in the international market.
“This year we brought two very powerful new features to LA Screenings,” Carlos Garde, general director of the Spanish distributor, began in conversation with ttvnews. “One is a great telenovela like Cacau, filmed in Brazil. It is having great success and a great reception. We have already closed several sales, such as that of Mediaset in Spain, in several European countries. And we are talking to channels and platforms here in the LatAm region,” he added.
Produced by Plural Entertainment for TVI, Cacao is set on a cocoa plantation in Itacaré in Brazil, and follows a young woman from a Portuguese family named Cacao (Matilde Reymão) who makes chocolate with exotic flavors. Her life changes when the man who seemed to be her biological father, Joaquim, actor Paulo Calatré, reveals her true origins as the illegitimate daughter of Justino, the owner of the estate.
The revelation puts Cacao in the spotlight as she becomes the rightful heir to Justino’s estate. Her rivals will do anything to stop her threat, but Tiago, a charming young man she falls in love with, will do everything possible to protect her from it.
“The other great new title is Galerías Cisne Dorado, a great series and great production based on the Second World War, in Prague during those years with the Nazi invasion,” said the executive. “It tells a great story of love and survival in adversity, and it is also having a great reception in the region. We hope to close agreements very soon,” he added.
Golden Swan Galleries, created by Filip Bobinski, Jan Coufal and Petr Sizling of Dramedy Productions, is a production of the Czech public channel TV NOVA. The series takes us to 1939, to the era of the protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, then under Nazi occupation, in the prelude to the Second World War. After fleeing for robbery, Bára hides in the Golden Swan galleries to escape from the police. A series of incidents and misunderstandings lead her to become a clerk in the fashion section, and a new life opens its way before her. Soon Petr, the charming store owner will set his eyes on her. But, although in love with each other, the inequalities between them will become evident. And in times of war, can love really be stronger than its obstacles?
Finally, the executive highlighted the good performance of the Italian series Flores sobre el infierno, which this morning announced new sales in the international market. “We are very happy with the great reception our series Flowers Over Hell is having, an Italian series with a female protagonist. We have closed sales in Australia, the United Kingdom and Romania, and other agreements that we hope to communicate soon,” he concluded.
