The distributor will manage the international rights to Spanish series El Inmortal and Rapa, which will be showcased at the upcoming Miptv, along with new seasons of La Unidad and Supernormal.
Beta Film has picked up international distribution rights for two new Movistar Plus+ Original titles as part of their ongoing international partnership.
The deal includes Canneseries-bound El Inmortal, Gangs of Madrid as well as Galician crime-drama Rapa, which will have its world premiere during the Festival de Malaga. Both series will be highlighted at Beta’s traditional Brunch-event at this spring’s Miptv on April 5th in Cannes.
This year’s Miptv line-up will also feature new seasons of two more Movistar+ productions, La Unidad II and Supernormal II.
Rapa (6×60′), produced by Movistar+ in collaboration with Portocabo, is the new series from the makers of Hierro, the most successful Movistar+ title of 2021. The drama takes place in the most Northwestern corner of Galicia, as long-time mayor and most powerful woman of the region Amparo Seoane is murdered. Investigating the crime will become an obsession for Maite, a sergeant in the Civil Guard, and for Tomás, the only witness to the murder.
The series will be featured in the Pantalla TV section of the 25th Festival de Malaga and celebrate its world premiere on March 22.
El Inmortal – Gangs of Madrid (8×60′) is a deep dive into the single-handed shake-up of Madrid’s 1990’s. JoséAntonio, played by Álex Garcia (Riot Police, If I Were Rich), rises up the ranks to drug lord, but what he cherishes most may just cause his downfall. The Movistar+ and TelemundoStreaming Studios production in collaboration with DLO Producciones is inspired by true events. The series will celebrate its world premiere in competition during this year’s edition of Canneseries.
Peter Lohner, VP Acquisition Hispanic and International: “We at Beta are thrilled with the variety of series entrusted to us once again by our partners from Movistar Plus+: the suspense murder mystery Rapa by the makers of ‘Hierro’ and the young-godfather-tale of the 1990’s, El Inmortal – Gangs of Madrid, inspired by true events and deservedly selected by Canneseries.”
The six-hour dramedy Supernormal and task force thriller La Unidad are both set for new seasons on Movistar+, with the latter premiering on March 18. La Unidad II (Movistar+ in collaboration with Buendia Estudios ) and Supernormal II (Movistar+ in collaboration with Secuoya) are part of Beta Film’s Miptv line-up this April.
