Premiered in November 2023, the successful Turkish drama series, I Am Mother, has already been renewed for a second season by broadcaster Show TV.
“The renewal for a second seasons is always like a confirmation that the title works well and will continue,” Barbora Suster, Director of Sales and Acquisitions for LatAm at Eccho Rights, who distributes the successful drama and is presenting it this week at LA Screenings, explained to ttvnews.
“The series, produced by O3 Medya, has been a widely praised success in Turkey, garnering top ratings, particularly in the key AB demographic, where it regularly tops the charts every Tuesday in a fiercely competitive primetime slot.
“I Am Mother is our great title that we are pushing in this market. It is a very strong story, about a woman who does anything for her family and her kids. But apart from being a story about a mother and children, it is a story of women in general, of the relationships that daughters can have with our mothers, that mothers are imperfect but we do what we can for the well-being of our children. It is an empowerment series, about how a housewife manages to be an independent woman to ensure a standard of living for her children, but it is also about her relationship with her mother and obviously a very important love plot,” said the executive.
Starring Özge Özpirinçci (Woman, Into the Deep) in the title role, I Am Mother is the story of Karsu, a woman whose unhappy and abusive marriage is just the beginning of her problems, as her family splits up and she loses one of her three children is kidnapped on the way to be cared for by her grandmother. Karsu must fight to get her son back while also trying to keep the rest of her family together in the face of strained relations with her own mother.
“Apart from this weekly series that we are presenting, we also have two new daily series, Redemption, which is the most viewed daily series in Turkey, and Winds of Love and Behind the Veil, two other titles that are making waves in the genre,” she concluded.
