In what will be its first commitment to original and exclusive entertainment, Atresmedia’s SVOD platform will bring the global phenomenon, winner of 19 Emmy Awards, to Spain.
Atresplayer Premium announced its first foray into the realm of original entertainment, which will join the long list of original series and documentaries it has released in the last year.
The Atresmedia streaming platform will adapt in Spain one of the most internationally recognized television formats in recent times, Drag Race.
The US show RuPaul’s Drag Race has won over audiences and critics since its inception in 2009.
The Spanish version of Drag Race will be produced by Atresmedia in collaboration with Buendía Estudios, after having reached an agreement in Spain with Passion Distribuition (distributor of the format) for WOW (World of Wonder).
Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey and Tom Campbell are executive producers of WOW.
Drag Race Spain will search for the best drag superstar in Spain through a challenging race. In each episode, contestants will have to pass the different tests proposed by the team in order not to be eliminated and thus be crowned the winner.
Drag queens take on photo shoots, dancing, artistic challenges, or musical performances to prove they are the best in their field. The final test always consists of a great catwalk in which the participants show their best looks. To decide who is eliminated, the two worst participants face in a duel that consists of being the best lip syncing. The worst will be out of the competition.
With this commitment, Atresplayer Premium continues to grow after having been crowned the leading Spanish broadcast TV platform.
