RCN Studios was consolidated in 2023 after going through an important process of changes in the company, producing a large amount of on-screen and off-screen content, including the most successful telenovela of the year in Colombia, Ana de Nadie. They focused on “understanding what the market is asking for,” as RCN Distribution director Alex Marin told ttvnews during his participation in Content Americas.
For the RCN executive, what has led them to make a big difference is to produce content that everyone likes. “I think that when it comes to creating original content, one of the difficult things is finding something everyone likes. That distinction I think is the most important, we are known for understanding what the market is asking for,” he said.
Marín pointed out that in 2023, the consolidation of the change to become RCN Studios was sealed. “We produced the most watched telenovela in Colombia, which was Ana de Nadie; we made a short telenovela called La tía Alison, Leandro Díaz that came out on the channel; we produced Betty la fea: 20 años después, we made the first season of Manes for Amazon and this year is the consolidation of that,” he indicated.
Currently, they are recording installments of Betty la fea, the next two seasons of Manes, and “making novelas left and right,” said Marín. They are also providing production services for third parties, “we are already working on the third season of Top Chef VIP for Telemundo and Master Chef for two or three Latin American countries,” he said.
According to the executive, their high level of production characterizes them. “We have our facilities and the trajectory of the team, which gives us the ability to be ultra-efficient in costs and very creative in how the different businesses are done, which has changed how we work,” he said.
He said that 2024 they will bring the production of La Casa de los Famosos, Master Chef, and the telenovela Rojo Carmesí, which begins shooting this week. “We have two telenovelas at the end of the year that we will also produce. Then, we have several premium series on the studio side for non-screen. Screen export product, we have about 500 productions, and then off-screen products, we have about 80,” he concluded.
