Colombia’s TIS Studios returned to content distribution and has a title in its hands that promises to be on all platforms and has a powerful journey throughout Latin America. Cosiaca, the Teleantioquia series, is the jewel that TIS has presented at LA Screenings, a piece of content with a very Colombian humor but with global projection.

Alejandro Toro, VP Commercial & Business Strategy at TIS Studios in Colombia, told ttvnews. “Colombian humor travels very well, it is a very well-made, period series that reminds me of series like Caracol TV’s La madre Laura. Robinson Díaz, a great actor, has been in renowned series that have traveled a lot, like El Cartel de los Sapos and Vecinos.”

According to Toro, even though it is a very regional and very Colombian series, they are confident that it can travel quite well and will be seen throughout Latin America.

“It is a Colombian series made by the regional channel Teleantioquia, and produced with public resources from the Colombian Ministry of Telecommunications. A very big bet by Teleantioquia as a regional channel, which normally does not produce this level of content. It is a series with great actors such as Jhon Alex Toro and Amparo Grisales, also having the performances of Marcela Mar and other actors,” said Toro.

Cosiaca is a period series from the beginning of the century, of a person from the bowels of the Antioquian culture, who is a myth, but is real. “It tells the story of a vagabond named Cosiaca, a great part of Antioquian humor is inspired by him. That humor chabacán, quiet, of someone with no concealment, at the beginning of the century, who was also a womanizer and attracted everyone despite his social status,” added Toro.

The series has 12 half-hour, humorous episodes. “Through TIS Studios, Teleantioquia chose us as distributors of the series, and we are sure that the series has strong international appeal. Hopefully, some open television channels in Colombia will also select it,” said Toro.

Announced the sale of Futuro Desierto to Netflix

TIS Studios announced during LA Screenings that Netflix has acquired the Gaumont-produced series Futuro Desierto for Latin America.

Futuro Desierto is an intimate and provocative sci-fi drama that explores the emotional bonds and clashes between humans and androids in the near future through family drama and thriller.

With international distribution by TIS Studios, Futuro Desierto joins the consolidated portfolio of high-end Latin American content, making its presence felt on the main global streaming platforms.

Back with a great portfolio

This year, TIS Studios kicked off with the announcement of its return to distribution. “TIS has a large library of products that we have developed for FOX, RCN, for different clients, and we have kept the IP. We have products like El Capo, a great franchise; La dama de Troya, a 120-episode classic telenovela; series like La Mariposa, and Celia. We also bring unpublished products such as Futuro Desierto, which we have just announced for sale to Netflix for all of Latin America. Likewise, we have the second season of Cecilia, we also have a true crime that is Los monstruos de Ecatepec, which was to be released by Paramount Plus, but did not end up coming out, and we have just edited it, it brings three installments of a true crime of a couple who murdered many people in Mexico, and we are sure it will be very popular in the market,” said Toro.

The company has all kinds of products, including current premium series, a telenovela library, and series such as Cadabra, Lynch, and Tiempo final.

“It is not the best year for the industry. We have been rowing a lot, but we have a great portfolio. We are going forward with this new business vertical that contemplates international sales. We are very focused on selling this content in Latin America and are also looking for partners outside Latin America for distribution,” concluded Toro.
