A Promessa is the adaptation of the Turkish format Zalim Istambul (Ruthless City), from Kanal D. It is an SP Televisão production for SIC, written and adapted by Inês Gomes and Cândida Ribeiro.
It focuses on the relationship between two families from the same homeland but with very different financial backgrounds, who end up involved in a secret deal, giving rise to conflicts, but also to forbidden passions tangled up in a complex plot.
