The US network commissioned a pilot for The Cleaning Lady from Warner Bros TV and Fox Entertainment.
Confirming rumors from the past few days, US network FOX announced that it has greenlit a pilot for new series The Cleaning Lady, based on Argentine series La chica que limpia.
The new series will be produced by FOX Entertainment and Warner Bros TV, who had acquired the adaptation rights to the series in October of last year.
With this new commission, the US adaptation of La chica que limpia is one step closer to becoming a reality.
According to the report, the US version was created by Miranda Kwok, screenwriter for The 100; Melissa Carter, executive producer of Stargirl; and Shay Mitchell from Amore& Vita Productions.
The pilot was written by Kwok, who’s also executive producer with Mitchell and Carter.
The US version will follow a doctor from the Phillipines who arrives in the US to receive treatment that can save her son, but when the system fails her and forces her to hide, she uses her smarts to defend herself.
She eventually finds herself in a world of moral greys, cleaning up crime scenes for the mafia and ultimately becoming an unexpected player in the criminal world.
The series originally aired in 2017 on Cine.ar Play. It was produced by Jaque Content, with executive production by Paolo Suárez, scripts by Irene Gissara and with Lucas Combina as director.
In addition to the US, the series is currently being adapted in Mexico as La muchacha que limpia, with production by BTF Media for Turner Latin America, which will air it in 2020 as a Space Original. In Europe, Catalan producer Fasten Films has optioned its rights for Spain and Portugal.
The format is distributed by RMVistar and Glowstar Media.
