The distributor will share a sneak peak of the series during the traditional Beta Brunch at Mipcom Cannes 2023.
In the context of Mipcom 2023, Beta Film has announced that RTL Germany acquired the rights to Maxima, the royal-drama that highlights the company’s catalogue at Cannes.
The shooting for the first season has just wrapped up, and a sneak peek of the first season the drama Máxima will be shown at the traditional Beta Brunch.
The beautiful Argentine woman Máxima Zorreguieta captures the heart of the Dutch crown prince, breaking cultural barriers. The series follows the story of an Argentine queen who experiences culture shock in the Netherlands.
Justus Riesenkampff, EVP for the Nordics and Benelux, Beta Film, noted that Máxima is a true story based on real events and a modern fairy tale at the same time: “A young Argentinian girl who marries into one of the most prestigious royal houses in Europe and becomes the Queen of the Netherlands. This unique combination is why we expect the series to resonate well with worldwide audiences.”
Máxima was produced by Millstreet Films and commissioned by RTL Netherlands’ OTT service, Videoland. The movie is based on the book Máxima Zorreguieta: Motherland by Marcia Luyten. De Bezige Bij published the book in the Netherlands, and Planeta published an Argentine edition.
Rachel van Bommel, producer of Millstreet Films, indicated that the strength of this series lies in the protagonist’s point of view: “You experience everything from her perspective. The approach is different from what you would expect. We will always see the story unfold through her eyes.”
The series was shot over the summer on location in New York, Spain, the Netherlands, and Belgium, with a stellar cast starring: Queen Máxima is played by Argentine actress Delfina Chaves (El secreto de la familia Greco); Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, played by Martijn Lakemeier (The East); Claus von Amsberg, William Alexander’s father, played by German actor Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others, Your Honour); Queen Beatrix, played by Elsie de Brauw (Death of My Mother).
At the same time, Valeria Alonso (Dime quién soy) and Daniel Freire (Sexo con Lucía) play Máxima’s parents, María Pame and Jorge Zorreguieta. Iván Lapadula (Dos Vidas) plays Tiziano, Máxima’s ex-boyfriend.
