El gallo de oro is an adaptation of the short novel by Juan Rulfo, one of the most important references of universal literature of the 20th century and precursor of magical realism. The story takes place in Mexico in the 1940s, when the convulsion of the revolution was still shaking and the poverty and changes it brought about were being overcome.
