Currently in the casting process and with production scheduled to start in the second half of the year, Ángela will premiere first on ATRESplayer Premium and then on Antena 3.
Atresmedia announced the local adaptation of the British drama Angela Black, in co-production with Buendía Estudios Vizcaya, according to Variety.
This is the second ITV drama for which the Spanish group is committed after Liar (Mentiras for the Spanish market).
Currently in the casting process, Angela is scheduled to go into production this year at Bilbao de Bizkaia.
The brainchild of Williams’ Two Brothers Pictures, Angela Black is being distributed internationally by All3Media International, which reached the adaptation deal.
The Spanish edition of the series is directed by Norberto López Amado, who has directed episodes of some of the biggest hits on Spanish television in the last 10 years.
The series will first be broadcast on Atresplayer Premium and then go to broadcast TV on Antena 3.
Starring Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt, Angela Black is a gritty tale of domestic violence wrapped in a thriller format. His change of image in Spanish is added to a lineup of Atresmedia productions whose commitment to Spanish fiction is one of its hallmarks.
“We are very happy with this new project because its scripts are very good and we are putting together a first-class cast. Ángela Black was very successful and fits very well with the type of fiction we are looking for when we ask ourselves which foreign series are the most interesting for adapting”, said Montse García, director of fiction for Atresmedia TV.
“With Angela Black we will follow the path of Mentiras, the adaptation of Liar, which worked very well with the public and critics,” she added.
