The 60th edition of Miptv began this Monday, April 17, an event that takes place until Wednesday the 19th, at the Palais des Festivals, in Cannes.
The international content and co-production market opened its doors -according to figures released by the organization-, with more than 180 stands and 530 exhibiting companies, and 1,600 buyers from more than 80 countries, including TV channels, distributors, studios, producers and streamers.
As expected, there is a moderate presence of Latin American companies, with standouts like TelevisaUnivision, which is presenting Las Estrellas’ catalog, as well as original fiction titles from ViX+, its new streaming platform, led by the Montecristo, starring William Leavy.
Likewise, TV Azteca, Caracol Televisión and Globo are expanding the presence of Latin American producers and distributors, who in this market are making drama a strong point within their international sales strategies for the European region, Eastern Europe and Asia.
Meanwhile, the presence of Spanish delegations is becoming stronger in Cannes thanks to Audiovisual from Spain, the ICEX umbrella that promotes production and distribution companies, as well as Catalan Films, the umbrella of the Government of Catalonia that promotes some 20 production companies from the Spanish region in Cannes.
In addition, there is also a strong presence of Turkish companies, which with the support of the Chamber of Commerce, is located in one of the main centers of the Palais des Festivals.
In this sense, Turkish public broadcaster TRT announced that in the coming weeks it will launch an OTT platform to the international market, which will be available in the coming months in Latin America.
Moreover, Merzigo, a Turkish tech company, sealed a new four-year strategic alliance with Medyapim, through which it will seek the global distribution of Turkish content, covering numerous regions such as Latin America, Africa and Asia, with a wide range of titles and more than 20 language options.
American content localization companies such as Universal Cinergia, The Kitchen and Dinter, are also present in Cannes, confirming the good moment that the dubbing and subtitling business is going through, through the high demand and consumption of content and its globalization through the exponential growth of streaming platforms.
In parallel, this edition of Miptv began with a wide agenda of conferences, keynotes and panels, around key issues in the industry, which include the rise of FAST channels, international co-production, as well as the various business models to exploit current content, and the classic presentation of The Wit on the latest trends in entertainment formats.
