The hit Brazilian drama will premiere this year.
Expanding its presence in Latin America, Globo has closed the first licensing deal with the free TV channel, Telefuturo, from Paraguay. Through this partnership, Pantanal, the prime-time leading telenovela on TV Globo in 2022, comes to a new territory in the region. The ever-growing audiences conquering production tells the story of the Leôncio and Marruá family saga surrounded by one of the richest ecosystems in the world. The story is scheduled to premiere on Telefuturo in 2023.
Written 32 years ago by Benedito Ruy Barbosa finding its adaptation by the hands of his grandson, Bruno Luperi, Pantanal, has names like Marcos Palmeira (Sweet Diva), Murilo Benício (The Clone), Juliana Paes (India: A Love Story), and Renato Góes (Orphans of a Nation) in the cast. In Latin America, the telenovela is already on air on channels such as Chilevisión in Chile, Telefe in Argentina, and the Paramount+ platform (except in Brazil).
The deal with Telefuturo also includes the exhibition of The Thorn and the Rose, a telenovela by Walcyr Carrasco (Hidden Truths and Sweet Diva), starring Adriana Esteves (Brazil Avenue) and Eduardo Moscovis (In Your Place).
“We are very happy with the beginning of this new partnership between us and Telefuturo. This is the first, of what I’m confident will be many deals made, as we always look to nurture our partnerships. The Latin America market represents a portion of great importance to us at Globo. They know the quality of the stories we tell already and have been engaged by them through the times. That is why we can see this as an opportunity to take our content to them”, says Isadora Filpi, Content Distribution & Partnerships at Globo.
“It’s the beginning of what we believe will be a fruitful relationship between Telefuturo Globo. Paraguay has always been a country that adopted Globo’s stories with a lot of enthusiasm, and now it’ll have the best screen to show them. The content is vast, from original stories that have never been seen before, to the great library that we have created for our audiences in ‘watch again’ spaces,” says Marcos Román, Programming and Acquisitions Manager of Telefuturo.
