The Basic with Ads package will have fewer titles and features, and will show 4-5 minutes of ads per hour.
Netflix will launch its announced subscription package with ads in November, starting in several territories, including Brazil, Spain and Mexico. The plan will have 4 or 5 minutes of ads per hour, fewer features and fewer titles, will allow for just one single screen, and will cost $7 a month.
“Netflix Basic with ads is an ad-supported subscription plan that allows you to enjoy movies and TV shows at a lower price. With this plan, you can enjoy Netflix in HD video quality (up to 720p) on one supported phone, tablet, computer, or TV at a time. You also have access to Netflix games without any ads,” the company says on its plans page, updated with the new information.
“Unlike our other ad-free plans, ads will be shown before or during most TV shows and movies. Some movies and TV shows will not be available due to licensing restrictions, and downloads are not included.”
The plan will launch in Canada and Mexico on November 1st, in Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, the UK and the US on November 3rd, and in Spain on November 10th.
The ads will last between 15 and 30 seconds each, and will appear on the screen every hour, with advertising intervals of up to 5 minutes.
The news comes just days after Netflix announced landmark deals that will allow third parties to measure its audience’s habits, including ad consumption, thanks to deals with Ad Science and DoubleVerify.
