The National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), the premier global business association for content producers, distributors, streamers and buyers across all platforms, has announced the return of its signature event for those in today’s changing business of television programming and media: NATPE Streaming+.
Taking place all day on Thursday, September 29th, 2022 at the W Hollywood Hotel, the conference will kick-off with welcoming remarks at 9:00 AM PT.
President and CEO of Paramount Streaming Tom Ryan will be recognized with the first-ever NATPE Award for Leadership in Global Streaming as a highlight of the day’s activities.
“In its fourth edition, NATPE Streaming Plus has become the leading networking and business connector not only in streaming but in how content is being created, distributed and monetized. Strategically scheduled a week after the Emmys, the event will draw the elite from the entire content ecosystem from showrunners, marketers, producers and sellers all facing the new reality of the business in dealing with production costs, windowing and licensing,” said JP Bommel, President and CEO of NATPE.
Ryan is receiving this inaugural award because he has set the example of the kind of innovation, entrepreneurship and determination needed to build the streaming television industry. He is a pioneer in the business of streaming and is responsible for one of the industry’s biggest success stories. As co-founder and CEO of Pluto TV, Ryan successfully established and led Pluto TV to become the industry’s leading free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service which surpassed $1 billion in revenue in 2021. In late 2020, Ryan was named President and CEO of Paramount Streaming where he spearheaded the launch of Paramount + in early 2021. Today, he is responsible for the global streaming and direct-to-consumer business for Paramount Global, one of three pillars of the company alongside the Film and TV divisions. Paramount Streaming encompasses free and paid streaming services including Pluto TV with nearly 70 million global monthly active users, and Paramount+, which currently serves 43 million subscribers worldwide.
Throughout the conference, conversations will focus on four areas of great importance this year as the streaming industry evolves – Content Creation, Collaboration, Monetization, and Churn. Omnicom Media Group Managing Director, Advanced TV Activation Kelly Metz will be taking the stage for the media keynote at the event. This senior leader possesses an expertise to help her clients and staff reach their goals via digital advertising, linear TV, OTT, content creation, and revenue growth. Metz will speak about the evolution of advertising in today’s growing streamed environment and its impact on those working within this changing industry.
Chairman and CEO, Paramount Premium Group David Nevins will be the featured guest for a conversation about the current business environment for subscription-based, streamed television services, with a special focus on scripted original content for Paramount+, SHOWTIME and BET+ intended for attracting and retaining subscribers.
