The newest OTT market share data from JustWatch for the second quarter of 2022 reveals Netflix continues to be the comfortable leader in Spain and key markets across Latin America, while Disney+ is the platform that’s growing the fastest.
With increasing competition from new and established players, the streaming world continues to change on a global scale, with platforms changing places in the overall ranking among users and popularity.
In Latin America, for instance, the newest OTT market share data from JustWatch for the second quarter of 2022 reveals Netflix continues to be the comfortable leader in Spain and key markets across Latin America, while Disney+ is the platform that’s growing the fastest.
In Brazil, Disney+ shows the most growth in Q2, earning +2%, while Globoplay and Star+ each suffered a loss of -1%. Netflix holds strong as the market leader, with a 9% margin over Prime Video.
Disney+ has seen active growth since January, adding a whopping +3% to its total shares. HBO Max earned +1% in the same time, standing at 12%. Meanwhile, top players Netflix and Prime Video remain at a standstill with 31% and 21% respectively.
In Argentina, HBO Max and Disney+ are neck-and-neck in the local streaming wars, holding a miniscule 1% gap between two of the streaming giants. All the while Amazon Prime Video comes to a close second with only a 3% margin to Netflix.
Minor players such as Star+ and Paramount+ show the most significant improvement by adding +2% each by midyear 2022. Prime Video, Disney+ and HBO Max also increased by +1% by the end of June. Meanwhile, global streaming giant, Netflix, and smaller players like Claro video and Apple TV + all suffer a -1% loss.
Global streaming giants in Mexico end up in a head-to-head battle wherein HBO Max closes in on Disney+ with only a 1% gap. Meanwhile, Disney+ approaches Prime Video, separated by a sole 2% difference. Despite the struggle of other players in the market, Netflix is far from being dethroned, holding 27% of the streaming market.
While three of the major streaming players in Mexico, namely HBO Max, Disney+ and Prime Video, showed incredible growth in the last three months, Disney+ displayed the most improvement, adding +1% by the end of June. On the other hand, market leader Netflix lost -1% while Star Plus suffered a greater loss of -3%.
And in Spain, the battle for the lead in the streaming wars is extremely close between Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, only separated by a 4% gap between the two major players. Competing for third, HBO Max is closing in on Disney+ with only a 2% difference.
Though still early in the year 2022, Disney+ shows outstanding growth by attaining +2% since January. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Movistar+ aren’t far behind on the rising trend, all gaining +1% each by the end of June.
