TV Azteca announced the acquisition of the broadcast TV rights in Mexico for the local version of the NBC Universal format, co-produced by Dopamine, Universal Television and Universal International Studios, which will premiere on Azteca 7 on May 30.
Azteca 7 will be the first channel to premiere Supertitlán, the Mexican version of the successful American sitcom, Superstore.
The new 48-episode comedy, which narrates the challenges and adventures of a group of employees in a store in Tacubaya, Mexico City, will premiere on May 30 in the channel’s prime time, and will air from Monday to Thursday at starting at 8:30 p.m.
It stars Jesús Zavala (Club de Cuervos, Dime Cuándo Tú, La balada de Hugo Sánchez, Ninis) and Sofía Espinosa (Gloria/Premio Ariel, La niña de piedra, Los Bañistas, Coco), in a cast that also includes Luz Aldán, Ricardo Peralta, Carlos Orozco, Aldo Escalante, Erika Franco, Azalia Ortíz, Martín Barba, Roberta Burns, Juan Ugarte, Francisco de la Reguera, Alfredo Gatica, Viviana Serna, Amanda Farah, Harold Azuara, Laura de Ita, Nuria Blanco and Eugene Rubio.
“The audience wants to have fun in a post-pandemic stage. This family series takes a new step in what is Mexican television comedy to elevate the genre with a close and natural type of humor, with new generation talents on screen. We are very happy to have found a good story in the hands of Dopamine, the Grupo Salinas production studio, and an international company with leading studios in the industry such as Universal Television and Universal International Studios”, says Sandra Smester, General Director of TV Azteca Contents.
“Supertitlán undoubtedly represents a young, authentic, familiar and universal Mexico, which is what we are looking for in the prime time of Azteca 7. In addition, the fact that in Grupo Salinas we have a chain of stores such as Elektra and Tiendas Neto, makes it so we feel close to the context of the series”, explains Adrián Ortega, vice president of Azteca 7, Acquisitions and Promotion and Image.
“Our adaptation respects the format while generating many new plots and adding endearing characters, showing a faithful and well-studied reflection of the Mexican reality, where the culture and labor references are different from those of the Americans. That has been the achievement: maintain the essence with its own personality. We have really enjoyed producing it”, says Fidela Navarro, CEO of Dopamine and Executive Producer of the series.
Supertitlán is the first adaptation of Superstore, created by Justin Spitzer and adapted to Mexico by Amaya Muruzábal, director of originals for Dopamine. It is a co-production between Dopamine, the studio in charge of physical production, the producer of the original series Universal Television and Universal International Studios, under an agreement forged by NBC Universal Formats.
Universal Television and Universal International Studios are divisions of the Universal Studio Group. NBCUniversal Global Distribution has global distribution rights.
