Amazon Prime Video and Zebra Producciones revealed that Jaime Lorente (Money Heist) will star in El Cid, one of the “most ambitious European productions” for Amazon Originals.
Amazon Prime Video announced this Monday that Jaime Lorente (Money Heist) will play Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar in El Cid, a series inspired by the epic Spanish medieval hero.
The Spanish Amazon Original series will be available in 2020 in more than 200 countries and territories around the world exclusively on Prime Video.
“We can not be happier to welcome Jaime Lorente to the cast of El Cid, which will be a different and ambitious series that requires a cast with incredible talent and agility,” said Georgia Brown, director of Amazon’s Original Series for Europe Studios
“Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar is a fascinating figure, a true hero whose exploits have been perpetuated over the centuries and we are excited to be able to give him life as never before in this impressive production,” he added.
El Cid will tell the story of the man behind the legend. The series will follow the epic journey of Ruy from childhood to becoming the Cid, a war hero who will end up being the most important character of his time.
Throughout the series, the audience will explore the different kingdoms, cultures and religions that coexisted in the peninsula, Christians, Muslims and Jews, and how El Cid was able to live with all of them.
The series is produced by Zebra Productions and will be shot in a set of more than 4,000 square meters, natural settings and with hundreds of extras, special effects and a team of more than 200 professionals will make this overproduction come true.
As they highlighted, will be “the largest historical series ever shot in Castilian.” It will begin filming in September.
The executive production will be in charge of Sara Fernández-Velasco and José Velasco, creator of the series, together with Luis Arranz, head of the script team, and Adolfo Martinez, director of the series, who will lead the production.
Gustavo Santaolalla, awarded with two Oscars (Brokeback Mountain, Babel), will be the composer of the soundtrack of the series. More than 8 writers have worked on the writing of the series in the last year.
