The docuseries is produced by VIS and directed by author and journalist Diego Enrique Osorno.
VIS, a division of ViacomCBS, announced the start production on Dr. Ballí, a new docuseries that will be part of the portfolio of original content for the Paramount+ streaming platform.
Dr. Ballí is based on the life of the feared Alfredo Ballí, a doctor from Monterrey, México, who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his lover. The story inspired the creation of one of the most chilling villains in literature and film: Hannibal Lecter.
The documentary is directed by award-winning journalist and author Diego Enrique Osorno, who through in-depth research will immerse himself in the depths of this fearsome Monterrey doctor’s personality.
The investigation includes newspaper articles, magazines, books, and interviews with more than 550 people who were related to the event: family and friends, police officers, employees of the penitentiary where he was imprisoned, reporters, photographers, lawyers, judges, prosecutors, detectives, psychologists, writers, criminologists, FBI agents, inmates, directors, producers, and screenwriters, and film and literature academics, among others.
