Co-produced by Telemundo Global Studios and Netflix, the series’ third season will be filmed across six different countries.
The Telemundo network announced the start of filming for the third season of The Queen of the South.
Filming, they detailed, began in Bolivia, one of the six countries where the story will be filmed.
As in previous seasons, the series will star Kate del Castillo, who is joined by the renowned international actor Pêpê Rapazote (Narcos, Queen of the South, Shameless).
There will also be Humberto Zurita, Isabella Sierra, Kika Edgar, Alejandro Calva, Tiago Correa, Eduardo Yáñez, Lincoln Palomeque, Antonio Gil, Emmanuel Orenday, Cuca Escribano, Sara Vidorreta, Ágata Herranz and Dmitry Anisimov.
“Almost a decade ago, Telemundo sowed a new standard in Spanish-language content with the arrival of La Reina del Sur, marking a turning point in Hispanic television. We are excited to begin filming Season 3 with Kate del Castillo and a wonderful all-star cast,” said Marcos Santana, President of Telemundo Global Studios.
“What makes this season even more special is that it takes place in Latin America. The audience will be able to enjoy the most distinctive and spectacular settings in the region, and feel like they are back at home, while they accompany Teresa Mendoza in this new and impressive stage,” he added.
Indeed, the new season of the series will include various emblematic locations in Latin America such as the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, Machu Picchu in Peru, the glaciers in Argentina and Santa Marta in Colombia, among others.
Originally created by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, the third season of La reina del sur is written by Lina Uribe, Darío Vanegas, Tatiana Andrade and Miguel Ferrari, under the direction of Carlos Bolado, Carlos Villegas and Claudia Pedraza.
Marcos Santana will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the series with Telemundo’s Ximena Cantuarias and AG Studios’ Rodrigo Guerrero as executive producers.
It is a co-production of Telemundo Global Studios and Netflix in which Telemundo has the exclusive rights to the series in the US and Puerto Rico and Netflix has exclusive OTT rights for the rest of the world.
SYNOPSIS:
The Queen of the South season three begins four years after Teresa Mendoza was separated from her daughter Sofía by her when she was imprisoned in the United States for the death of three DEA agents. After a dramatic escape, Teresa faces a world full of conspiracy and corruption, risking her life with the intention of clearing her name and reuniting with Sofia.
