The successful Turkish film distributed by Inter Medya continues to add international territories.

Inter Medya revealed that Miracle in Cell No. 7 will soon arrive in the US Hispanic and Puerto Rico.

The Turkish company had already announced agreements with more than 10 countries for international sales of the film directed by Mehmet Ada Öztekin, and now adds these two new territories.

In Turkey, Miracle in Cell No. 7 was an overwhelming success: with more than 5.3 million viewers, it was the most watched movie in theaters of 2019. In addition, on Netflix it made it into the Top 10 most popular films in the US, Canada, Brazil and France, among other countries.

In Mexico, the film reached more than 3.1 million viewers, achieving a 19% share on Imagen TV and leading prime time. It became the most successful film in the network’s history, with a rating of 5.45% of households nationwide.

In Chile, the film aired on Canal 13 last week and became one of the most watched films on the channel in recent years, obtaining an audience of 11.6%, the highest since 2016.

“We are happy and excited that our sensational film is traveling to the Hispanic United States and Puerto Rico. Miracle in Cell No. 7 proves that Turkish feature films have a place among international audiences, following in the footsteps of Turkish series. Hopefully we will announce other agreements shortly,” said Inter Medya Vice President and Head of Sales and Acquisitions, Beatriz Cea Okan.

The film tells an emotional and thoughtful love story between a father with an intellectual disability – who makes him act and think like a child – who lives with his six-year-old daughter, Ova, and his grandmother.

His life changes when he is wrongly accused of murdering the daughter of a high-ranking military man. While he will suffer in jail, in cell 7, sentenced to death, Ova will fight to find the only witness who could help save the life of his father.

It is an adaptation of the 2013 South Korean film, A Gift from Room 7.
