The longest running game show on international TV will return to Spain thanks to Mediaset. Titled El precio justo, it will be produced by Fremantle and hosted by Carlos Sobera.
The Price is Right, one of the most emblematic formats in the world, is returning “totally renewed” to Mediaset Spain, as announced this Tuesday by the group, which did not reveal whether it will broadcast it on its main channel Telecinco or on Cuatro.
The format’s new Spanish, El precio justo, is produced in collaboration with Fremantle, the company that handles the international distribution of this game show, the longest-running in the history of TV worldwide.
The Price Is Right was adapted in Spain for the first time in 1988, by RTVE’s La 1, where it remained on the air until 1993. Between 1996 and 1997, Madrid’s Channel 7 TV broadcast a local version. Then, in 1999 RTVE produced it again, until 2001. Finally, in 2006 the game show was seen on Antena 3.
According to Mediaset, El precio justo of 2021 will respect the essence of the mythical contest and enhance its most iconic elements. Carlos Sobera will be in charge of putting emotion, tension and humor to this new stage of the program.
As in its original adaptation, El precio justo will have a simple dynamic: in each edition, several anonymous contestants have the sole objective of guessing, without going overboard, the price and value of one or more objects. After a first phase that already leaves your adrenaline high, you reach a great final round full of great prizes and cash.
The casting is now open to all those over 18 who have intuition and want to have fun.
The Price is Right has a large international record, with 45 Emmy Awards, and has been adapted in 42 territories in its more than 65 years of history.
In the US it has been broadcasting for 48 years and in Portugal it has been on the air for more than 18. Currently, it is also broadcast in Thailand, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
