The international distributor has sold a package of five productions from DRG’s catalog, led by Swedish political thriller The Inner Circle, which will all launch on SVOD service Globoplay later this year.
DRG and TV Globo have finalised a deal which will see five current high-profile titles from DRG’s catalogue launch on SVOD service Globoplay later this year
The deal is headed by critically acclaimed Swedish political thriller The Inner Circle (8 x 60), a Fundament Film production about an ambitious man who’ll stop at nothing to become Prime Minister.
Written and directed by a team that includes Häkan Lindhé (Modus II, 30 Degrees in February), The Inner Circle was nominated for the 2019 prestigious Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize.
Also from Scandinavia is Melk (10 x 30), a Norwegian dramedy about two very different single mothers. After their babies were swapped on the maternity ward they end up living together and sharing the ups and downs of motherhood.
The third high-profile scripted series heading for Globoplay is Synchronicity Film’s breakout hit The Cry (4 x 60). One of the UK’s most watched dramas in 2018, The Cry stars Jenna Colman (Victoria) and Ewen Leslie (Safe Harbour) in a psychological thriller about a couple whose relationship disintegrates when their baby goes missing.
TV Globo has also acquired North Korea – Voices From the Secret State (1 x 60), Hardcash Production’s revealing documentary featuring residents’ uncensored views of life in the isolated country, and The Oslo Killing (6 x 60), a gripping, unsolved true crime story produced by Monster for Discovery Networks Norway and Sundance Now.
Spanning a period of more than four decades and filmed across several countries, including Argentina, it tells how a violent murder stirred up international relations and reveals well-kept secrets about evidence, love affairs, and overlooked suspects.
The deal was negotiated between DRG’s SVP Americas, Scott Kirkpatrick, and TV Globo’s Luiz Felipe Reis.
Scott Kirkpatrick said: “We are delighted that TV Globo has put its faith in our content for its impressive Globoplay service and I am especially pleased to see two of our most recent Scandinavian dramas on the list. Scandinavia consistently produces top-quality gripping thrillers and delightfully funny comedies, and with Latin America’s growing appetite for well-made international scripted content I am confident that many more from our rapidly expanding slate will soon follow in the region.”
Luiz Felipe Reis added: “We are delighted to offer these premium titles from DRG a home on our expanding Globoplay platform. We pride ourselves in featuring high-profile titles that will connect with our viewers and start a conversation – and I firmly believe that this mix of compelling, topical drama, a humorous look at motherhood and gripping and insightful factual content will prove extremely popular.”
