As revealed by the Spanish media, Atresmedia’s production division is working on the TV adaptation of the novel by Fernando J. Múñez, set in 1720, which will be starred by Michelle Jenner.
Atresmedia Studios is working on a new fiction series. As revealed by the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, it will adapt La cocinera de Castamar, the first novel by Fernando J. Múñez, published by Editorial Planeta.
The adaptation, which stars Michelle Jenner (The Cathedral of the Sea), would be created for Antena 3 and Atresplayer Premium, Atresmedia’s broadcast network and SVOD platform, respectively.
Atresmedia Studios is in the casting phase for this fiction set in eighteenth-century Spain, and filming is scheduled to begin during the European autumn, the news says.
La cocinera de Castamar joins several other projects that Atresmedia’s third-party production division is working on, such as La templanza, El internado: Las Cumbres and the third season of Pequeñas coincidencias for Amazon Prime Video; a revival of Physics or Chemistry for Atresplayer Premium; and titles without an announced screen, such as El valle, La Nueve, The Secret Hospital (with Beta Spain and Balance Media) and Mala gente (with VIS).
In La cocinera de Castamar, Clara Belmonte is a young woman who runs away from a painful past and arrives in Madrid in 1720 to work in the kitchen of the Castamar palace.
The death of her father accused of treason has disrupted her life plans and made her sick with agoraphobia. She takes refuge in the kitchen to survive and turns her work into her great passion. She fills her dishes with the hopes and conviction that we will all be the same when we all eat the same. In the palace she cooks for Diego, Duke of Castamar, a widower with whom little by little they will fall in love. It will not be an easy journey for the couple: the class difference and the opposition of his mother will be the main obstacles to being together.
