Chilean networks are betting on re-releasing previously successful contents, a trend that began last year and has only intensified now with the coronavirus crisis.
Chilean TV is definitely one of the most competitive in Latin America and as such, it’s also one of the most innovative: it’s no coincidence that Chile was the first country to bet on Turkish dramas.
And in this context, there’s a new trend taking over Chilean TV that seems to be intensifying due to the coronavirus quarantine: re-releases.
And while it’s nothing new, the phenomenon is quite notable as of lately due to the great number of titles making a comeback on Chile’s broadcast TV screen.
The phenomenon began with Turkish series. Last year, Canal 13 premiered the drama Sila, which had originally aired on Mega. Canal 13 also premiered Ezel, which had also been premiered by Mega first.
On the same boat, Mega decided to re-release 1001 Nights and Fatmagul.
In almost every case, ratings were good, prompting the trend to continue growing.
A few days ago, Mega premiered Turkish series Mother, while Canal 13 premiered Colombian series Pablo Escobar, the Drug Lord, which aired seven years ago on Mega.
And now the trend has extended to local productions. In fact, TVN decided to premiere La Chucara, which first aired in 2014. And in its first two episodes, it made a splash on social media as well.
Mega has just announced three re-releases of local productions: Perdona nuestros pecados, Señores papis, Pituca sin lucas and Amanda.
The first one to return will be Perdona nuestros pecados, which will premiere on March 30, three years after its original premiere.
